Primary Purpose of Position
Support the Chemistry Department through maintaining the Chemistry laboratories and Prep Room, preparation, set up, and restocking of chemicals and equipment for 1000 and 2000 level labs. Responsible for stockroom billing, safe and orderly handling and storage of chemicals.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from high school; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Job Duties
- Prepare chemical solutions and materials for General Chemistry and Organic teaching labs.
- Work as part of the Prep Room Team supporting all Chemistry teaching and Research labs in the Chemistry Department.
- Manage purchase orders, process all deliveries and deliver to correct locations.
- Monitor, train and help manage student workers.
Other Work Responsibilities
- Assist with lab safety and safety equipment management.
- Perform work in a safe, efficient and organized manner.
- Assist Researchers and Faculty with extra duties as needed, and as part of the Prep Room Team.
- Create a work plan from a list of tasks and goals.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- B.S. or B.A. in Chemistry
- Knowledge of chemical handling and storage procedures.
- Experience with basic lab equipment and instruments: chemical balances, pH meters, spectrometers.
- Understand chemical nomenclature, formulas, equations and symbols.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving chemical formulas and concepts. (Molarity, Titration, Concentration, etc.)
- Ability to make chemical solutions from procedures or formulas.
- Experience training student workers is preferred.
- Ability to multi-task efficiently.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and move materials safely.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and able to use internet browsers.
- Self-motivated team member.
- Effective skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communication including effectively working/interacting with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.
